The Society of St. Francis has diverse origins in a number of Franciscan groups which drew together during the 1930s to found one Franciscan Society. SSF in its widest definition includes First Order Brothers, First Order Sisters (CSF), Second Order Sisters (SOC) and a Third Order.

SSF was established in Solomon Islands in 1970 to strengthen urban mission where priests were considered to have less experience. The First Order shares a common life of prayer, fraternity and a commitment to the poor. Theirs lives are bound by the vows of Poverty, Chastity and obedience, with Love and Joy and Humility.

The Third Order's mission and purpose is to make our Lord known and loved everywhere to promote the spirit of love and harmony and live simply.
